Bangkok to Cairns via Singapore
We left our Bangkok airport hotel at 7pm—the easiest trip to the airport ever - 5 minute walk underground from the hotel to the international terminal. Our flight left at 9:10pm and flew to Singapore (1.5 hours). Arrived at 11:40 Thailand time. 12:40am Singapore time.
We wandered and explored the incredibly clean airport terminals visiting the movie theaters, sunflower garden, butterfly garden, koi ponds, numerous slides and play areas until about 3:30am.
Dragging a bit at that point, we hit the snooze lounge.
They have areas all over where you can sleep in the airport, we even saw one person who brought their own cot! The kids slept until 6ish and then we headed to the gate only to find out our flight was delayed. Fortunately, not too long and we took off about 9:30am for our 7 hour flight. I slept most of it, Mel about half of it, and Zach passed out when we got on but only slept for about 2 hours (I think—this is according to him since I was sound asleep). I did notice that he was glued to the iPad every time I woke up so it probably was the case. He was a gem at customs in Cairns, definite lack of sleep and too much TV behavior.
We arrived in Cairns, Australia around 5:30pm, Australia time. 1 hour difference from Singapore, 3 hour difference from Thailand. Headed to the hotel via taxi (no ubers were available at that time). The hotel upgraded us to a suite which is great—-huge and plenty of space with a huge balcony and best part is a small kitchen. Bill, Zach and I hit the grocery store to grab some food for dinner and after getting hit with major sticker shock after being in Thailand we grabbed some food and headed back to the hotel to eat, shower and go to bed. And, to finally use the tap water to brush our teeth, woohoo! No more bottled water teeth brushing.
I came across this picture on Bill’s phone and it made me laugh out loud. Obviously, I had no idea he captured our sleepy states. Mel definitely does not look comfortable. If I had to guess I would say this was taken within the first 30 minutes of the flight—we were exhausted. After our all-nighter in Singapore, we were all ready to sleep!
