Scotland Recap

What was your favorite part of Scotland?

Melina: My favorite part was when we went to the castle and we got to have tea in the atrium area of the castle restaurant, that was really cool.

Zach: My favorite part about Scotland was when I made a new friend and we played in the snow. And the very best part was when my friend asked me if I wanted to be pen pals.

Sharon: The people, the history, the beauty, all of it, loved it and can’t wait to go back.

Bill: The history, walkability, mix of old and new.

What was your favorite food in Scotland?

Melina: The shortbread.

Zach: Shortbread biscuits and shortbread crackers.

Bill: Fish and chips

Sharon: Those all veggie vegan breakfast patties at breakfast. SO good!

Aviemore and Edinburgh were very different from each other. Which one did you prefer and would you go back to either?

Melina:– Aviemore had a lot less people so that was nice to have so much space. I would go back to both I think but probably not Aviemore in the winter. Also, if you go during the winter really bundle up because otherwise you get sick and not fun for anybody involved. It is cold, like my mom says, Russia cold.

Zach: I will go back to Aviemore anytime and I will go back to Edinburgh too. You are never bored because the weather is unpredictable so it can snow anytime and that’s super fun. I will go back to Edinburgh too because there is a cat café, a castle and the joke store. And Arthur’s seat in Edinburgh is super cool.

What was the most interesting historical fact that you learned on the trip?

Melina: The most interesting historical fact I learned was how many times the Edinburgh Castle changed hands during the 1300s it was like English and Scotland were playing hot potato with a castle. It was also interesting to learn how young the rulers were, one of them was 8 and his wife was 10! I think that was in the 1200’s.

Zach: The most interesting thing I learned is that all of the names of the military members in the Scottish military that have died are in books in the chapel at the War Memorial at the castle.

Bill: Prisoners from the American revolution were held in the castle.
