We are back in the Bay Area for our planned catch up month (February) to get caught up on those things in life that don’t go away just because you are in another country! Fun stuff like taxes, oncology appts, dentist appts, wisdom teeth removal, etc. A little jolting to go from exploring the world to the reality of taxes : )
Arriving back from London, our friend Jen picked us up from SFO and we were so excited to see her, catch up on Sonoma life, etc. She dropped us off at my parent’s house where we stayed for a night, did laundry, swapped out clothes and then headed to Reno/Tahoe for a week. Melina had an interview at a specialty school she is interested in attending for 10-12th grade. We skied, visited with family, enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and then headed back to the Bay Area as we would be using mom and dad’s house as a homebase while they were on their annual anniversary Switzerland trip (mid-Feb to mid-March).
The beginning of February was busy. We did taxes, Melina had her wisdom teeth removed (+ 2 extra teeth!), we all had dentist appts for cleaning and a crown for Bill, squeezed in a school field trip with Zach, ortho appts, doctors appts, lymphedema appts, school check ins and more. Melina even squeezed in Girl Scout cookie sales, World Thinking Day and a ski trip with her troop. And, Bill and Zach headed to the USS Hornet for an overnight.
After a busy couple of weeks, we headed to Sonoma for 3 days for a delightful to stay at our favorite hotel. It was a work trip, but squeezed in some fun. Ok, maybe a lot of fun as we were able to see so many friends and catch up.
We headed to Austin at the end of February, 3 nights in Austin and 2 nights in Waco. Bill less than thrilled about the Waco part, but I really wanted to check out Magnolia Farms and why not? We were going to be in Austin for work anyway so why not a little detour? Loved it, such a cute little town with a fabulous bookstore and great running trails along the river. Did we need multiple nights in Waco? Probably not, I’ll give him that. We stopped off in Georgetown on the drive back, another fun stop. Off to Austin and Bill headed to work meetings for several days while the kids and I explored. We love Austin, so any excuse to visit we’ll take it!
Flew back home the beginning of March, swapped out clothes and then headed to Reno the next morning for a quick overnight for a placement exam for Melina. Back to Marin for a night and then headed to San Jose for the night to see dear friends. Good thing we are all used to being on the go!
Back to Marin to pack bags for Bill and the kids who were off to KY on Tuesday March 10th. The plan was to drop off Bill and the kids and pick up mom and dad from SFO at the same time. You know what they say about the best laid plans : ) Mom and dad's flight out of Switzerland was cancelled and they were re-booked for the following day through Germany so two days later I headed back to SFO to pick them up. They are home safe and sound and HEALTHY thank goodness. They made it just in time as the flight/airport COVID-19 chaos for European flights hit the next day.
