My experience traveling the world: By Zachary

It was fun to travel for a whole year. I especially loved Japan, all the cool shops and I liked the cat cafe.

Thailand was fun too. I got to snorkel and I hand caught a fish! We also went on a snorkeling day trip on mom’s birthday. I saw a shark from 5 feet! I was swimming with sharks! And, I saw some cool coral too. I made mom a birthday card by drawing in the white sand when we stopped at an island for lunch. All and all it was great except for the typhoid shot I had to get in the USA to even go to Thailand. But it really was a fun trip to Thailand.

Scotland was also super fun. We went to Edinburgh and saw all the Harry Potter stuff and then we went to Aviemore in Scotland. We had to take a super long bus ride because the train tracks flooded, but when we got there it was all worth it. We were staying at an awesome resort in Scotland with so much space to run. I made a friend named Toby who was staying in the condo next door. We played a lot together because Dad was in San Francisco and mom and sis were super sick. Toby and I are pen-pals now on email but I also sometimes send him postcards. We played in the snow when it snowed there and had a lot of snowball fights.

Auckland was a lot of fun. We stayed right downtown. I got my first set of magic the gathering cards there. It is super fun to play.

The Singapore Airport is the coolest airport I have EVER seen. I got my go-pro there and they have a butterfly garden and a movie theater and a slide and a jungle gym all for free! Except for the go-pro.

Krabi, the Krabi International Airport is about as big as 10 gates at SFO, so tiny ;)

Australia was also super fun. It was one of my four picks (we all go to pick 4 countries). I got to go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and we got to see a turtle release. My parents went for a walk the day after the turtle release when they saw the turtle washed up on the rocks. She was still alive but she was stuck :(  But my parents and another two people helped put the turtle back into the water. The turtle was about 500 lbs and the turtle’s name is Myrtle the turtle.

What did you think about your world schooling experience?

It was fun and I loved it because I got to go to so many different places and got to do my schoolwork whenever I wanted.

Working on homework on the beach at our hotel in Koh Lanta.

Loved it here!

Would you travel for another year?

Yes, I would do it again and I would go back to Fitzroy Island and back to Thailand. I loved being in the water and swimming with all the fish, turtles and sharks. I also want to go back to Japan.

What did you learn about yourself on the trip?

I learned that I like traveling and trying new foods. My favorite food that I tried was all the food in Thailand. It was so yummy. My least favorite food was the snail at the Ninja restaurant in Tokyo.

What are the most important things you want to travel with?

Money, my backpack with my computer for schoolwork and keeping in touch with my friends, my snorkel and mask. And of course my swimsuit!
